Hey all, it's been a really long time since I posted anything. But, for those of you who have not heard yet, I got my orders. I am moving to Camp Lejeune, NC next week to be the Battalion Adjutant for 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines. It is an infantry battalion that just got activated, or created if you will. Being the adjutant means I'm the head administrative officer for about 1,000 Marines. Not exactly what I had in mind, but its still an opportunity to lead Marines and influence them. Hope everyone is doing well and I'm praying for you, particulary Torrie. That sounds really painful!

I love how often things change in the Marine Corps. As of yesterday, I am going to IOC on Monday. That means in three months, I'll be standing in front of a platoon of Marines. Once again, I'm nervous and excited about it all at the same time.

Just got out of the field from my last FEX(field exercise) here at TBS. Only 3 weeks until graduation! Then, it's hang out and heal up until January, when I go off to Infantry Officers Course. Hopefully, the LAV Leaders Course will come after that. Please pray for Ed, since he will be going to OCS tomorrow. I know he would appreciate it. He's got a busy, difficult ten weeks ahead of him.

Just found out that I am going to be an infantry officer once I leave The Basic School. I'm excited and a little bit nervous about going to Infantry Officers Course, but I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. And, in about 4 months, I'll finally be leading Marines again. Oh, and we had a 15 mile hike this morning, which was not really fun, but it was our last, so that's good too.

For once in a very long time, I have very little to do over the weekend, so I thought I might as well let people know what I've been up to. I am right at the halfway point at The Basic School this week (woo hoo!) and it's theoretically all downhill from here. I think that whenever I go to grad school, I will probably find it pretty easy after this. It's like someone put a firehose in my ear and turned it on full blast. Despite my enlisted experience, I have still learned a great deal about the Marine Corps and being a platoon commander. This past week was a lot of fun, even though it was hot and we were in the field for most of it. We got to ride in a helicopter to the place where we were patrolling, and since it was a military base, we flew at treetop level and the pilot turned the helo on its side a few times on the way. Up to this point, we've been working on a lot of individual skills, such as land navigation, basic marksmanship, and communication, and squad-level tactics. Now, we're getting into platoon-level stuff. In about a month, I'll be finding out what my MOS(job) will be, and where I'll be stationed. I'll be sure to let everyone know when I find out. I've been able to come back and help out a little bit here and there with camp, which has been a blessing to me.  That's pretty much it. I normally spend my weekends writing operations orders and warning orders for simulated squads and platoons, and sleeping. I hope that everyone is doing well and if you find yourself in the area between DC and Fredericksburg, give me a call sometime.
